Namecheap has the best dedicated server hosting plans out there.  Not only are Namecheap’s dedicated servers the cheapest, but they are also some of the most powerful rentable servers available.

I’ve been a Namecheap customer for over 3 years now. It took lots of research to come to this conclusion, but I can confidently say that Namecheap has the best dedicated server hosting plans available.

Above all, here’s why I choose Namecheap to host my website, how to tell if you need a dedicated server, and a comparison of dedicated server options.

When Do You Need a Dedicated Server?

After years of shared hosting with DreamHost and a quick stint with Bluehost, it was time to move my website to a dedicated server.  I had outgrown the limitations of “unlimited” shared hosting. In essence, I was hitting the DreamHost shared hosting memory limits and my processes were getting killed.

To give you context, I used to run a diamond price tracker website which analyzes hundreds of thousands of diamond prices everyday.  My daily cronjobs were using too much memory and processing power, so procwatch would terminate them.  If my memory serves me correctly, I figured out that the DreamHost memory limit is probably 128 MB for shared hosting.  For some reason, DreamHost customer service will not reveal this number.

DreamHost will not disclose the shared hosting memory limit, but I estimate that it is 128 MB per account

In all fairness, this is completely acceptable. DreamHost does not want one user to negatively affect other users on the same server.  It just bugged me at the time because I thought unlimited shared hosting meant unlimited shared hosting.

I tried to optimize my code as much as possible, but I got to the point where I could not optimize any further.  The sheer number of records that I was working with was memory intensive.  I knew I needed a more powerful hosting plan—a dedicated server.

And so the search for the best dedicated server began.  The obvious first place to look was DreamHost, but as you’ll see in the next section, DreamHost dedicated servers are way overpriced

How Much Does a Dedicated Server Cost?

As their name implies, Namecheap has some of the cheapest dedicated server plans available. Most noteworthy is the cheapest Namecheap dedicated server that comes with a 4 core 3.1 GHz CPU, 8 gigabytes of RAM, and a 300 gigabyte SSD.

Consequently, I rent this dedicated server package for $58.88 per month.

Furthermore, dedicated server prices go all the way up to $379.88 per month for a whopping 12 core 2.1 GHz CPU, 64 gigabytes of RAM, and four 240 gigabyte SSDs with RAID 10 mirroring.  Head over to Namecheap for a complete list of dedicated server hosting plans.

Dedicated Server Price Comparison

To give you an idea of how Namecheap prices compare to other dedicated server providers, here is a table that compare the cheapest dedicated server hosting plan available at each hosting provider.

CPU4 cores4 cores4 cores4 cores
Hard Drive500 GB or 300 GB SSD1 TB500 GB1 TB
Monthly Price$58.88$149.00$119.99$169.99

To make a fair comparison, let’s see how much a dedicate server with 4 cores, 8 gigabytes RAM, and 1 TB hard drive costs at each hosting provider.

Monthly Price$98.88$159.99$199.99$209.00

Please take these comparisons with a grain of salt. The comparisons do not consider things such as bandwidth limitations, hard disk mirroring, and server management costs.

The bottom line here is that Namecheap not only has the cheapest dedicated server hosting plan available, but also gives you the best bang for you buck.

Namecheap vs DreamHost Pricing

When you compare DreamHost and Namecheap dedicated server prices, you’ll see that Namecheap is significantly cheaper than DreamHost at both ends of the spectrum.

DreamHost has 9 dedicated server plans available. It’s worth noting that DreamHost offers a $20/month discount when you sign up for a year; however, even with this discount, Namecheap is still a cheaper option than DreamHost.

Namecheap vs Bluehost Pricing

I reluctantly looked into Bluehost dedicated server options. When experimenting with their shared hosting plan, I had multiple bad experiences with Bluehost customer service.

With just 3 dedicated server plans to choose from, Bluehost is not your best choice.

A big red flag for me was the promotional pricing.  Prices advertised on Bluehost are only good for one year.  After that, you will be charged the regular rate which is 50% to 75% higher than advertised.

So you’re looking at $119.99/month for Bluehost’s cheapest dedicated server with 4 cores, 4 GB RAM, and a 500 GB hard drive. Bluehost’s cheapest dedicated server plan costs more than double what Namecheap costs and only has half as much RAM.

Namecheap vs GoDaddy Pricing

Another red flag is raised with how GoDaddy structures its dedicated server pricing.  Expect to pay 50% to 62% more after your first year of hosting with GoDaddy.

While GoDaddy offers 4 dedicated server plans, their cheapest plan comes with with 4 cores, 4 GB RAM, and a 1 TB hard drive and costs an outrageous $169.99/month.  The comparable Namecheap plan costs just $98.88/month and has double the RAM as GoDaddy.

Reliable Dedicated Servers with Namecheap

All things considered, Namecheap has the widest variety and cheapest dedicated server plans to choose from.  With 24 flavors of dedicated servers plans, Namecheap offers both single and multiple CPUs as well as self managed, managed, and fully managed options.

I can tell you from my research and experience that the best dedicated server hosting plan is Namecheap.  This is especially true for those of you moving from shared hosting who are looking for a more powerful, yet affordable option.
